Paul R. Gregory is a research fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, a research professor at the German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin, holds an endowed professorship in the Department of Economics at the University of Houston, Texas, and is emeritus chair of the International Advisory Board of the Kiev School of Economics. Gregory has held visiting teaching appointments at Moscow State University, Viadrina University, and the Free University of Berlin. Having earned a PhD in economics from Harvard University, he is the author or coauthor of twelve books and more than one hundred articles on economic history, the Soviet economy, transition economies, comparative economics, and economic demography. Dr. Gregory also served on the editorial board of The History of the Stalin Gulag, a seven-volume documentary series published jointly by the Hoover Institution and the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation. He also serves or has served on the editorial boards of Comparative Economic Studies, Slavic Review, Journal of Comparative Economics, Problems of Post-Communism, and Explorations in Economic History. Dr. Gregory is working with director Marianna Yarovskaya to produce the documentary film Women of the Gulag. Marianna Yarovskaya is the director of the film Women of the Gulag, which is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities Bridging Cultures Through Film program. Yarovskaya was a researcher on Kindertransport (1999 Academy Award) and Rory Kennedy’s The Last Days in Vietnam (2015 Academy Award nomination), as well as a field producer on Participant Media’s Countdown to Zero, which was selected at Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals. She was also the head of research for Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, which won an Academy Award. Yarovskaya directed and produced Undesirables, which won a Student Academy Award (Student Oscar), a College Emmy Award, and was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Her film Holy Warriors, about a sniper turned priest, played in 35 countries and won numerous awards. She has worked as a producer and senior editor for Discovery Channel, National Geographic TV, History Channel, NASA, Netflix, and Greenpeace USA. The daughter of a theater director/playwright and a rocket scientist, Yarovskaya grew up in Moscow, Russia and holds a MFA in Film/TV Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and an MA from Moscow State University.
